Therapy for Grief and Loss
Grief is a natural response to loss, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. It can show up in waves—sadness, anger, numbness, confusion, even guilt. Some days may feel almost normal, while others feel heavy and overwhelming. There’s no “right” way to grieve and no set timeline for when it should end. Everyone’s experience is different.
It’s also important to recognize that grief isn’t only about the death of a loved one. People can grieve the end of a relationship, a major life transition, a loss of health, a missed opportunity, or even the life they thought they would have. Any significant transition or loss—whether visible to others or not—can bring real and valid feelings of grief.
Therapy can help by giving you a safe space to talk about what you’re feeling. We would help you understand your emotions, find healthy ways to cope, and work through complicated feelings that might be hard to share with friends or family.
You might consider therapy for grief if:
- · Your feelings feel overwhelming or intense most days
- · You’re having trouble functioning at school, work, or in daily responsibilities
- · Your sleep or appetite has significantly changed
- · You feel stuck, numb, or unable to move forward
- · You’re experiencing persistent guilt, anger, or regret
- · You’re isolating yourself from friends or family
- · You find it hard to talk about your loss with people close to you
- · Your grief feels complicated by other stressors or past losses
- · You’re using unhealthy coping strategies to get through the day
- · You simply want extra support while navigating the loss
Seeking therapy doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you—it can simply be a way to care for yourself during a difficult time.
